Mr. Rajjit Gupta, HR Manager, LMJ International visited BIBS campus on 5th November to address the final year students. Mr. Gupta is a young professional with more than 7 years of experience in HR. His previous experiences are as Regional HR – Logistics at Future Group, AM – HR at GKB Lens and Officer – HR at ITC PSPD. He has completed his M. Sc. In Chemistry and MBA in HR.

Mr. Gupta’s discussion emphasized on few key points i.e. (a) Knowledge about industry; (b) To know about employer’s expectation on the first job; (c) Preparation for interview

Knowledge about Industry – Cement, Steel & Power are the Core industries; I.O.C. is the biggest petroleum co. in India & Shell is the biggest petroleum co. in the world; Bharti Telecom is the biggest telecom co. in India; one of the weaknesses of India is that all kinds of fertilizers can’t be produced in India, even though demand is there (namely, of N, P & K fertilizers, K fertilizer can’t be produced in India); Orissa is richest in minerals, namely iron ore & bauxite.

Know about employer’s expectation on the first job – Bigger the organization, lesser the designation & smaller the organization, bigger the designation; Generic hierarchy (from bottom to top) in an organization is as:- Officer->Executive->Sr. Executive->Assistant Manager->Deputy Manager->Manager->Sr. Manager->A.G.M./D.G.M.->G.M.->Sr. G.M.->A.V.P.->V.P.->C.E.O./President; Job Description of Marketing Executive – product branding, ATL & BTL, PR; Job Description of HR Executive – Recruitment, HRIS, Organizing people.

Preparation for interview – An interview is a war of knowledge between the interviewer & interviewee; It is better to ask the interviewer at the end more about the position & role; Precise elevator speech & presence of mind hold the key; Essential elements of self-management are time management, spirituality, focus on positivity, motivation & humbleness; easiest way to learn in life is through observation; FAQ of interview questions could be studied from the world’s biggest job portal – Monster

He emphasized that as a student of management education, one should really focus on regular reading habits and his suggested readings for a student includes Business World, Indian Management Journal (from Business Standard), Tuesday Telegraph, Times of India.

For him success mantra for a professional is intelligence, emotions, self-motivation & self-awareness and setting high standards and targets for himself.

Overall, it was quite a learning experience for all of us present in the session.
