Mr. Sagar J Daryani, Founder, Wow! Momo addresses the BIBS students
Mr. Sagar J. Daryani visited our campus on the 29th of September, he is an young entrepreneur who started a momo fast food chain known as Wow! Momo along with his friend, Mr. Binod Kumar Homagai and are spread across 10 prime locations in Kolkata and are also opening their first branch in Bangalore. Wow! Momo has a turnover of 2.4 crore annually. They are the first food chain to take up momo as a core item and innovate it into a business.
Mr. Daryani is a bright young guy from St. Xaviers College, full of enthusiasm and energy and is very passionate about his business. He started his business at the age of 22 just when he had completed his graduation in 2008. He believes that although he comes from a business family and it’s automatically in his genes and

also he was confident of knowing the tricks of the trade, still the seed of entrepreneurship was sworn in him during his formative years in St. Xavier’s College by doing innumerable projects and getting associated with different clubs.
Mr. Sagar follows the method of “Jo Dikhta Hai, Woh Bikta Hai” concept. He thoroughly believes that something which is visible in front of everyone, and which attracts people’s attention, they are surely going to buy it. The product has to be very appealing which would make people try the product. Sagar and his partner Vinod were awarded for the creative idea and even an article was also published in the Telegraph magazine. So for him brand promotion is very important to sustain in the market, which he focused on again and again.
He was very excited to share with us the experience when he had started off with a small place and 30,000/- and how he turned it to be a 2.4 cr turnover business. His initial seed fund came from his parents, who understood his passion of starting something of his own and supported through out.
He feels deeply for his employees and also motivates them not only monetarily but also by giving them other benefits, supporting them, interacting with them, knowing what are their requirements…etc. Sagar as a human being is very generous kind of a person, he values human lives… which is why he decided to give Re. 1 per plate sold in his outlet for the underprivileged who don’t have money to eat… no shelter and no education. He gives credit to his employees for the work done by them publicly, this encourages the employees also.
He focused that the present time is conducive for entrepreneurial ventures because of a support system created by The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE), Indian Angel Networks (IAN) and others in terms of ideation, mentoring, funds and venture support. He also emphasized on the importance of a business plan while starting up a venture, as it gives a clear picture of what you want to achieve.
Mr. Sagar has a vision of expanding his business all over India and also expanding to other countries as well. He wants his food chain to be renowned and flourished like the other food chain outlets such as KFC, Dominos. His dream is to create a brand which originates from India and become a global leader in years to come.
Overall, it was an interactive and motivating for all of us and really a learning experience for those who want to start something of their own in the food sector in future.
