Thank you IBM for the mentoring session
At BIBS, we get the opportunity of interacting with several professionals from the corporate. When I came to know that the entire HR team of IBM will come to our college and will mentor us first in our campus and subsequently at IBM Office as a part of their association with our college, I was very excited about it.
Having an interactive session with the HR team of IBM was an enriching experience. The first session with them was interactive as well as informative. After the initial ice breaking sessions our group was divided into smaller units for the one to one sessions.
For each group two mentors were assigned. Through the question-answer round the mentors were trying to probe into our areas of
interest. They also tried judging our domain knowledge. As a result there were some areas they identified, where we lacked and require lot of inputs. They gave us some useful guidelines which were really valuable for us.
They also suggested some books, through which would enrich our technical skills that we posses.
They gave us tips on handling vital questions in the interview rounds like –“Why you want to be an HR” and “Why have you chosen HR” etc. The mentorship program which will continue for the next few months would definitely help us develop the competencies in HR such as leadership skills, team skills etc.
In fact the mentors were even mentioning that students from the last year’s batch are still in touch with them and ask for regular support and mentoring, which is actually amazing.
Mentors emphasized to have in depth knowledge of the domain and clarity of thought and encouraged reading a lot of books.
It was a great learning experience and we are eagerly looking forward to the mentorship program with them.
Thank you IBM.
