Volkswagen which had a vast segmentation of four wheelers, expanded their scope of recruitment as well.

Breaking through the conventional ways of hiring, Volkswagen purposefully distributes damaged vehicles to the garage across Germany concealing a job advert on the undercarriage of each.

The mechanics of the different shops had an idea about the owners of the cars and they repair and re-model them as per their skills and creativity.Who-so-ever have observed the advertisement have applied for the job as well.

This makes the company easy to shortlist the CV’s on the basis of the genuine talent of the mechanics who have applied for the positions!

Imagine the prime numbers can help you to land in hiring table?

Google came up with a billboard in Silicon Valley that read

{first 10-digit prime found in consecutive digits of e}.com”.

Brainiacs who calculated the answer to the mathematical puzzle knew the billboard directed them to www.7427466391.com. And when they visited the site, they were presented with another challenge. Only those who entered the correct answer were re-directed to a page that said:

“Nice work. Well done. Mazel tov. You’ve made it to Google Labs and we’re glad you’re here. One thing we learned while building Google is that it’s easier to find what you’re looking for if it comes looking for you. What we’re looking for are the best engineers in the world. And here you are.”

In addition to engaging the right audience, the puzzle worked as an effective filter for the applicant pool. This left Google with a group of candidates that clearly enjoyed and excelled at solving complex puzzles.

Now that you know of the creative recruitment campaigns, which one has made an impression on you? Look out for the next company interview you appear for.

An Interview With Mr. Raj Biswas, Marketing and Sales Manager, Tata Motors

  1. Sir, what is your advice to the fresh MBA Graduates?

My advice to the fresh MBA graduates is having practical knowledge along with theoretical about the business is very important. One needs to be discipline because today in the corporate world is to have a very disciplined work life and good ethics. So apart from bookish knowledge it is very important to have practical knowledge.

  1. Sir, how does your company reward good performance?

As it is known that in a company like Tata Motors which is a global company and it has a employee strength of 75000 so there is no such parameters as to we need to do or we should do but there are a lot of appraisal for our employees like the one we have the Employee of the Month accompanied by awards for people who come up with new initiatives. In Tata Motors, actually we have lots of reviews for people to enhance their skills, experiment and to come up with new innovative ideas. Tata Motors is a very employee friendly company where people have the space to explore themselves.

  1. Sir, what according to you make your company successful in the motor sector?

Automobile sector is a big sector n if one goes through this sector and have a look at the Auto Plan till 2026, India is having a very aggressive planning as it is a part of Make in India and Skill in India project. So, we at Tata Motors are forming an integral part of Make in India concept as we are the leading Auto Maker in the country so these are some benefits which push us ahead and we also have some new launches this year and this is how we are growing and this sets us apart.

  1. Sir, what are the new projects that you are working on and the ideas ingrained by you for making them successful in the market?

Well that is Confidential and you will come know about by watching the advertisements in next couple of days but as I mentioned that we always look forward to innovations and because of that we had three launches last year and this year too we are coming up with two to three launches. We have products both in commercial and passenger. We are coming up with advertisements and revealing the teasers and we have also showcased our products in the Auto Expo this year but I could name the products as these are code names which will change later on but any how we are working fantastically on our products and you would get to see them very soon.

  1. Sir, what are the things that you regarded during your journey?

It is very tough question, basically I believe in hard-work and I think that there is no replacement to hard-work. An average person can become extra ordinary if he/she puts in dedicated hard-work in to his work and an extra ordinary person can become average if did not put efforts in order to perform good. So hard-work, Work Ethics and precision in work is very important and it is very difficult for an individual to carry all these at one point of time but one can at least attempt to have a detailing in his performance. I would like to share an instance that when I joined my first company Maruti I learned that in order to analyze any problem it is very important for an individual to do a site visit and then find solution and not in board rooms. In Tata Motors, the work ethics and the team work are the things which I have learned during my journey so far and I want every individual to inculcate these qualities in themselves.

6.Sir, one such incident where it was difficult for you take decision and the measures you took to overcome that situation?

In the field of sales there are plenty of such issues where it is crucial to take decision and it is difficult to isolate one. I remember there is one such situation which is very close to me is once we did a project in order to increase Vista sales as at time it was not doing well in West Bengal and it was difficult because once the vehicle gets stuck into the stock it becomes difficult for not only the channel but also for us, so then we called for a meeting and we as a team came up with a very innovative idea of Upgradation that is from first time buyers to second time buyers and this change was successful not only in West Bengal but in  incorporated entire East and so the sales of Vista got short- up at that time and this is one such incident which I always recollect.

How industry tie-ups with big brands is beneficial for a B-School

The moment we decide to enrol ourselves into a B-school, there is a clear expectation of placement amongst us. While sorting the institutes, the criteria searched for is their credibility of placements. The better the placement records, the more students rely on the institutes for building a bright career. Here, starts the role of big brands, which are associated with the placement panel.

Building contacts during internship

It is no more a hidden fact that a good recommendation will help students like us in bagging a favoured position and that is how we are groomed by the B-schools during the course tenure. The internship is all about acquiring learning experience that will help us to flourish later in our careers. Building contacts are one of the key points that no intern should miss while being in their internship period. In such a situation, not only the students but also the companies are also on the receiving end. The companies get to explore possibilities of the students and have the free hand to recruit as per the candidate’s strengths.

Real-time experiences

The upgraded B-schools have shifted their focus from regular classes to on-field classes. The recruiters are benefitted as the candidates are groomed from a very basic level and there is scope for improvements. The main advantage for us, as a student is, during this internship period, we get to involve closely with projects and get to experience real challenges. As we tend to be most dedicated during this first stage of our encounter with the real work field, thus the companies are assured of the dedication from us towards the work.

Judgement over performance rather than marks

This definitely differentiates a B-school from a regular study and association with big brands plays a major role over here. If the B-school has a strong base of placement partners and we have the skills there is the guarantee to get the deserved result. Most of the b-schools send the candidates for an internship in the intermediate semester to ensure they get to access their skills before acquiring a degree in the specific field. The companies most of the time get a promising candidate if the performance is notable; eventually recruiting the intern as an employee.

Besides these, three key things, industry tie-ups with big brands are also helpful for fresher like us to understand the industry and to get a proper exposure of the industry. Because, at the end, a B-school works as a finishing school and if we do not get those finishing touch, it would not be possible for us to go that extra mile in this era of cutthroat competition.

Placement – Let’s Spill the Beans

In any MBA program, the most important and coveted phase comes in the end and it is called – “placement”. Yes! This is why students have to learn so many things throughout so many sessions and modules. Moreover, it is a matter of fact that if the students do not get a suitable and satisfying placement, almost the entire effort would be deemed futile.

When a business school guarantees placement to their students, numerous questions come in the students’ minds and we are aware of it. Now it is our turn to reveal the truths regarding the placements. Let’s break the myths!

Actually, 100 percent placement is a fishy term and most of the B-schools, who guarantee a 100 percent placement, are not even able to provide you with the details of the students placed; however, a fewer have a consistent record of placing their students with renowned companies.

As a B-school, we have an industry integrated three-tier placement cell with big fish tie-ups. We ensure that our students are placed with big brands like Aditya Birla Group, Emami, Deloitte, Google, The TOI, Dabur, SAIL, Pepsico to name a few.

Now the question that might come to your mind is how we are maintaining such an outstanding placement record consistently. Actually, there are certain reasons that play a crucial role in choosing BIBS by the top companies as their favourite destination for collecting talents –

Learning with BIBS – Jinia’s Experience

Jinia Bhattacharyya – one of those bright young minds who decided to pursue PGPBM (Marketing) from BIBS and finally got a placement with Britannia. In this write-up, we will tell you a story. A story of a girl, who has proven that genuine hard work and meticulous guidance are the key ingredients for the recipe of success.
Finally, when we managed to get an appointment with that busy lady, she poured her heart’s content and told us how BIBS became the friend, philosopher and guide throughout her entire journey to success, against all her odds.

Q: Kindly share your experience and feeling of the day before your campus interview.

A: Honestly speaking, before that interview of Britannia, I had appeared for some more interviews with companies like Godrej, Johnson & Johnson and Nestle. My interview with Britannia was just a couple of days after the Nestle, so I was already through the process of being interviewed by various organisations and that helped me a lot. Though a palpitation was there in my mind.

Q: As a B-school, what unique thing of BIBS helped you most?

A: Apart from those theoretical classes, BIBS provided us with various practical exposures related to product launch, marketing strategy and so on. It acted as a finishing school with everything a student would love to take part. In addition, the most important thing is, they deliver everything as per their commitment.

Q: What are the differences you see in yourself before and after studying at BIBS?

A: Though I was from a marketing background, however, I had some lacking related to soft skills and communication skills. I was also not confident about giving a presentation. BIBS helped me out from everything related to business etiquette and so on. Beside conventional education, they also helped me in developing marketing skills.

Q: Why BIBS and not any other B-school?

A: My primary reason was the low budget offered by BIBS. Moreover, they offered us with effective and industry standard materials, which helped me a lot in getting the right things within the right time.

Q: Any suggestion for those looking for an MBA in Kolkata?

A: Every student should make sure that the affiliation and recognition of the institution is a proper one. But a student should be aware of the fact that, most of the institutions fail to attend their commitment. I’m glad that I joined BIBS, the only institute that fulfills its commitments.
