Kaizen, or continuous improvement, is a Japanese concept of change-for-the-better that emphasizes collaboration among employees and the management, rather than top-down control. It is a Japanese philosophy that emphasizes cooperation among employees and the management. Employees are asked to evaluate new ideas and proposals internally before they are rolled out to the rest of the company.

In today’s competitive economy, having a competitive edge is more important than ever. Companies must build up their capacity and talent over time if they are to remain relevant. At the same time, existing employees must be empowered to take on more responsibility and increase productivity in ways that enhance customer experience, enhance market share, or reduce costs. One of the many benefits of pursuing an MBA is that during the course of the program, not only do you gain theoretical knowledge, but you also acquire skills that are in alignment with Kaizen principles. As an MBA graduate, you learn to take responsibilities and assume positions of leadership.

Kaizen has to be implemented at all levels. In fact, a successful implementation begins with the idea itself and evolves gradually from there. Kaizen comes from the idea that action is needed to improve the quality of life of many individuals, groups or organizations. This process is not only intended to create better products, processes or services but it can also be used to motivate people and increase productivity in an organization. During the course of your MBA program, you learn a more process-oriented approach which is one of the Kaizen principles. In doing so, you learn to organise and prioritise your tasks in such a way that it leads to a holistic improvement of the organisation.

The Kaizen way of working is all about improving every aspect of the business. Kaizen teaches you to look at a problem from multiple perspectives and to set realistic goals for each area. It looks at every purchase made by the business and sees how much money is being spent on things that don't contribute to the growth or success of the business. As an MBA graduate, you learn to view things from a fresh perspective. Your MBA program gives you the opportunity to think on your feet and come up with quick solutions to any problems that you might be facing. The ability to look at a problem from various angles and to readily provide a solution is something that you learn over the course of your MBA.

The Kaizen methodology has proven successful at improving employee satisfaction and productivity. There are four characteristics that most strongly predict future success: consistency, flexibility, engagement and impact. The Four Agreements are a set of principles that MBA graduates should uphold as their standard in living. One of the most important factors for graduating from an MBA college may be not so much what you know but how well you learn. Your ability to learn is shaped by both your innate talent and the environment in which you learn; it is a function, in other words, of kaizen — continuous improvement in quality.
